Welcome to docs.opsview.com

Events View

This view allows you to see all the events that have occurred in the Opsview system, to track state changes to hosts and services to get visual correlation information.

Views

Table View

The Table view shows all the events for the current filter. By default, it will show the 1st page of all events on the system.

In the table view, you can also click on any of the columns to order by that column. You can also add extra columns by selecting them from the View Options box.

Timeline View

The Timeline view takes all the events currently filtered for and places it on a time line, to allow you to visually correlate different events. You can scroll the time line horizontally to see more events by clicking and holding on the time line and dragging horizontally. If you move into a new area, there may be a temporary delay while Opsview gets more data to display. You can also zoom the time line in and out using the mouse wheel, to stretch the time line horizontally and see more or less time and events at a time.

The icon in the time line will always have the host name against it. Click on the icon or the host name to get detail about that event.

The timeline will automatically center on the first event on a page.

Often there are more events than can be displayed on the time line all at once. When this happens the scroll bar on the right hand side can be used to view further events (as per the screen shot), or the mouse wheel can be used to zoom in to a more specific period of time. Alternatively the filter can be used to restrict the events being displayed, by host/keyword etc.

Icons

The icons represent the host or service state for that event.

View Options

You can filter the events listed via the View Options drop down box. Choose extra items in the popup menus to add to the filter. You can remove existing filters and clear filters. As you change these items, the events will be updated.

You can also click on a host name, service name, host group, keyword, state or state type to filter by that. If you have VIEWALL access, you can filter by any host, service or host group. If you have VIEWSOME access, you can only filter by objects you currently have access to.

If you click on a time, this will open the time line and display the related event.

If you filter by a service name without any host name filtering, you will only see services with that particular name, that is, you do not see any host events. If you add a host name to the filtering, then you will see host events as well as service events that match.

You can also filter via the search box. Enter any words in here and Opsview will search the host name, service name or output columns for the same term. You can narrow the search by adding extra terms. Press enter when you have entered all the terms you want for the table to update.

You can bookmark the page and your filter options will be preserved.

Modes

There are two modes:

  • Auto Refresh, where it will flash with new events that have occurred
  • Historical View, where new events will not be added

The mode depends on whether you set an end time as a filter. The option View Options → Auto Refresh is a shortcut which removes the end time, orders by time descending, and reverts to page 1.

In Auto Refresh mode, it is possible to get audible alerts. Click on the speaker icon to enable audible alerts for new events that occur. When new events arrive, a banner will appear to say that there are new events and from what point in time (according to the browser) these new events are compared against. You can reset the time to only show new events from now.
